Semester 1

The Middle Learning Team has started the year with an integrated unit of work around the theme In There.  In this unit of work we will be establishing our class culture as well as finding out about what makes us tick as learners.  We will investigate many different learning styles and intelligences and find out what our ideal learning environments are, as well as learning to appreciate the differences of those around us.

Together with the whole school our value theme for the year is Responsibility.  In Semester One we will be looking at Responsibility for Ourselves which fits neatly into our top of In There.

Our major exciting Learning Team event for Term 1 is our camp to Living Springs.  All four classes will away on camp for 3 days and 2 nights during Week 6.  Camp is a major calendar highlight for the children and staff alike and provides a great opportunity for us all to learn more about each other at the beginning of the school year.

In Term 2 our focus continues to be In There.  Through this topic we will launch into an inquiry unit based on the science curriculum looking particularly at energy.  This unit will allow all children to use the Ashgrove Inquiry Process to form wonderings, locate information, process the information to answer their wonderings then use their newfound knowledge for a purpose they can communicate to others.

We will also continue to look at Responsibility but will concentrate on Responsibility for our Environment so as to tie in with our inquiry topic.
