Message from Christine Houia
Ashgrove School Principal

Welcome to Ashgrove school where we provide a very exciting learning environment for children to learn.  Learning is fun and children are fully supported through the learning process by incredibly talented teachers who have access to appropriate professional development opportunities.  At Ashgrove, teachers continually develop and refresh their skills enabling them to be creative and maintain safe, caring and respectful classrooms.  Parents can be assured their children who attend Ashgrove School will

As a positive learning environment that encourages learning for life Ashgrove School is committed to a shared and well developed vision of

GROWING TOGETHER FOR SUCCESS

All staff share a strategic whole school approach that our school community is a safe, caring, respectful and inclusive place.

The principal and teachers are working together to design a curriculum that supports and empowers all students to learn and achieve.  The curriculum will also reflect our cultural diversity, values and traditions.  The New Zealand Curriculum document introduced in 2008 allows us to explore a variety of teaching and learning processes by which we will build our teaching practice.  At present we are shaping this to be addressed under these themes.

Semester 1:              LIVING AND BEING
Semester 2:              CREATE AND BUILD

The inquiry process we are developing challenges the children to actively think and research information to gain knowledge. Teachers are helping students to participate in a range of activities where they further develop their skills in learning to be self managing, competent thinkers. This is all part of being a life long learner in a technological world that is constantly changing.

At Ashgrove School we foster an open door policy that allows us to assist both parents and children concerning learning and teaching.

We look forward to a long association with families at Ashgrove Primary and encourage you to participate in the learning life of your child while attending our wonderful community school.

Christine Houia
Principal
